The research group

The Clinical and Molecular Osteoporosis Research group conducts research with a focus on the identification of risk factors contributing to osteoporosis and fragility fractures. The research studies range from clinical and patient related to experimental. The group, headed by professor Kristina Åkesson is located in the Clinical Research Centre (CRC) Malmö and the department of orthopedics, Malmö.

We are looking for a driven postdoctoral fellow. The employment is full time with the desired start date 2020-02-11 or by agreement. 

Position and work duties

The research project will explore the relationship between risk factors (biomarkers, genetic markers and lifestyle factors such as diet and physical activity) and osteoporosis in large population based cohorts. The project will primarily involve working with large datasets to investigate clinical and genetic risk factors for musculoskeletal phenotypes (fat, muscle, bone, fracture). The work will include planning and conducting advanced statistical epidemiological analyses, data interpretation and authoring scientific manuscripts. Other administrative tasks within the research group may also be required.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • A PhD (within the last 3 years) in epidemiology, preferably in the field of bone health.
  • A strong background in clinical and molecular epidemiology and biostatistics.
  • A strong publication record with at least three articles as first author.
  • Familiarity in a related subject such as nutrition or sports science.

There will be a large emphasis towards personal characteristics. The applicant is expected to contribute to, and work productively as part of a team. Similarly, the ability to show initiative, work independently and develop collaborations would be advantageous.

Additional requirements:

  • Experience of advanced statistical methods including Mendelian Randomization and Causal Inference Mediation is particularly meritorious, as is experience of STATA and R statistical packages.
  • Demonstrable communication skills, for example teaching experience.
  • Proficient in both written and spoken English.

Terms of employment

This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of a maximum of 2 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow”) between Lund University, SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated 4 September 2008.
