The Research Group
The Genetic and Molecular Epidemiology Unit has had several major national and international projects in understanding the etiology of metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, fatty liver, obesity, cardiovascular disease and the interplay between these diseases through studying the omics and clinical determinants. Having access to several unique and rich data sets enable us to further investigate and enhance our understanding of these diseases. Here we aim to recruit a postdoc who is experienced and interested in studying the aforementioned diseases and who has diverse knowledge and background in mathematics, statistics, and bioinformatics.
The Genetic and Molecular Epidemiology Unit runs several major national and international projects focused on understanding the role of genomic and lifestyle factors in complex metabolic diseases like diabetes, obesity and CVD. The Unit has led major projects funded by the National Institutes of Health, European Research Council and Innovative Medicines Initiative, several of which are ongoing.
The Unit currently hosts several doctoral students, post-docs and junior faculty. The Unit seeks to fill one or more new post-doc appointments. The successful applicant(s) will be expected to work in a support role to the group leader (Prof. Franks) and other members of his team within a range of projects, including those conducted solely by the GAME Unit and through large-scale international collaborations.
The current COVID pandemic has required that many members of staff work remotely, which we anticipate will be the case for the successful applicant. Nevertheless, all members of the team are expected communicate directly and on a regular basis with other team members and the head of the group, Prof. Franks. Occasional international travel for training and collaboration meetings may be necessary.
