Subject description

Research focussing on investigating field and laboratory time-domain (TD) and frequency-domain (FD) spectral induced polarisation (SIP) data as a base for estimating hydraulic properties and the monitoring of soil contamination processes for environmental and engineering applications.

Work duties

The main duty is to conduct research in field and laboratory environments with the induced polarisation (IP) method. That includes:

  • Research within the subject area
  • Conduct field investigations at hydrogeological test sites in Sweden and abroad with TD and FD SIP, together with cooperation partners
  • Design and perform laboratory SIP measurements in a microbiology laboratory to investigate the influence of bacteria on sand filter samples
  • Data processing, analysis, inversion and interpretation of the acquired laboratory and field data
  • Adapting and testing algorithms for estimating hydraulic properties from the SIP field results. Evaluation against laboratory and field hydraulic testing data
  • Presenting results at conferences and in peer-review papers
  • Management and co-ordination of large research projects with many different participants from other universities, industry and authorities
  • Raising research third party funds
  • Participation in teaching of courses at bachelor and master level.
  • Supervision of degree projects and doctoral students
  • Collaboration with industry and wider society
  • Administration related to the work duties listed above

Qualification requirements

Applicants must have:

  • A PhD or equivalent research qualification within the subject of the position.
  • Post-doctoral research experience within the subject of the position.
  • Education on and work experience of applied geophysical methods in general.
  • Documented long experience under laboratory and field conditions of the IP method in both time-domain and frequency-domain.
  • Good knowledge and skills in the work with bacteria in a microbiology laboratory environment.
  • Proven ability to organise, conduct and manage field experiments, also abroad.
  • Proven ability to manage and co-ordinate research projects with participants from other universities, industry and authorities.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Basic oral and written knowledge in Swedish.
  • Very good communication and organisational skills.

Assessment criteria and other qualifications

  • Documented ability to present and publish results at national and international conferences and in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Successfully proven ability to seek and receive research funding.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
