Subject description

Research that, within the framework of a number of different research projects, aims to develop the geophysical methods electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) and induced polarization tomography (IPT) in time domain, which can be performed simultaneously in the field.

The work is linked to several research projects, one of which is funded by Vinnova, SBUF, the Swedish Transport Administration, NCC and PEAB. The focus is on applying, adapting and evaluating ERT and IPT as tools for quality control of soil stabilization with cement and lime-based binders. Within this activity, field measurements must be planned and carried out with the application of developed methods to collected data.

Furthermore, the work is also linked to a research project on structural health monitoring of hydropower dams (the Swedish Energy Agency) and one on measurement disturbances (BeFo), which also includes development, adaptation and automation of signal processing, data filtering, inverse modeling and visualization. Analysis, interpretation, presentation and reporting of results are also included in all research projects.

Work duties

The main duty is to conduct research in the subject described above regarding the geophysical methods ERT and IPT. That includes:

  • Research within the subject area.
  • Supervision at field investigations.
  • Supervision of degree projects and doctoral students.
  • Raising research third party funds.
  • Collaboration with industry and wider society.
  • Administration related to the work duties listed above.

Qualification requirements

Applicants must have:

  • A PhD or equivalent research qualification within the subject of the position.
  • Very good competence and experience of research on geoelectric surveys with the methods ERT and IPT.
  • Documented competence and experience of work with signal processing of geoelectric measurement data.
  • Documented competence and experience of work with numerical inverse modeling of geoelectric data.
  • Documented competence and experience of software development in geophysics.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in Swedish.
  • Driver’s licence “B”.

 Assessment criteria and other qualifications

  • Succesfully proven ability to present and publish results in national and international conferences and peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Succesfully proven ability to seek and receive research funding.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.
