The Department of Statistics employs around 15 researchers, teachers, PhD students, and other staff. We conduct research within a number of areas, such as the analysis of high dimensional data, Bayesian methods, spatial-temporal models, non-Gaussian modelling, applied research in the social sciences, and stochastic models and computational statistics. The Department of Statistics at Lund University is looking for applicants for a doctoral position in statistical modeling of high dimensional data with application towards genetics.
Job assignment
Doctoral students devote their time primarily to completion of course work and the writing of a doctoral thesis. The employment as a PhD student is granted on a yearly basis and the total period of employment may not exceed 4 years of full-time studies. Departmental duties, i.e., teaching, administration or research not directly connected to the dissertation topic, may amount to a maximum of 20% of full time. When such departmental duties are performed, the length of employment is extended accordingly.
The doctoral student project has the two possible, not exclusive, paths, a more mathematical and a more applied path.

Basis of Assessment
Admittance of a doctoral student is primarily based on an assessment of the candidate’s ability to benefit from third-cycle studies.
The applicant’s ability to benefit from third-cycle studies and research will be assessed with reference to the selection criteria stated in the relevant general syllabus for third-cycle studies, available at http://staff.lusem.lu.se/phd-studies/phd-programmes.

Fixed-term employment, maximum four years (fulltime studies).
Only those admitted to third-cycle courses and study programs at a higher education may be appointed to doctoral studenship.
