The Research Group

The position as a statistician is located in Kristina Sundquist’s research group at the Center for Primary Health Care (CPF). The CPF is a dynamic research platform at the Clinical Research Centre (CRC), a vibrant and inspiring science environment in Malmö's beautiful hospital area. The CPF is a collaboration between Region Skåne and Lund University.

Kristina Sundquist`s research group includes some of the most cited researchers in Sweden. The research group has had uninterrupted support from the National Institutes of Health (NIH, USA) for 20 years and has a long-standing collaboration with a number of leading international universities, e.g. Stanford University (USA), Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York (USA), Virginia Commonwealth University (USA), Shimane University (Japan), and Heidelberg University (Germany).  

The research at the CPF is, in addition to the National Institutes of Health (NIH, USA), funded by the European Research Council (ERC), the Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation, and the Swedish Research Council. The CPF's overall mission is to carry out world-leading research within primary care as an active exchange of knowledge between academia and primary care. The research is conducted in collaboration with researchers at Swedish and international universities, dealing with major chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and psychological ill health, substance use disorders, as well as women’s and children’s health and the health effects of migration and socioeconomic disadvantage.

We are now looking for a statistician who will mainly work within our NIH projects focused on substance use disorders and psychiatric outcomes. The appointment is permanent and full-time, starting as soon as possible or by agreement. Probationary employment may be applied.

Work duties

The main tasks will be to contribute statistical competence to the epidemiological research projects and, together with the other statisticians in the team, be responsible for the development of the activities within statistics. The tasks include: To carry out and participate in the planning of epidemiological studies in terms of problem formulation, design, and analysis. To participate in discussions about interpretation and presentation of the results for scientific articles, including drafting sections of articles. To continuously deepen our knowledge in statistics and epidemiology. To teach and lead seminars in the use of statistical and epidemiological methods and to support doctoral students and researchers in statistical and epidemiological issues.

 

Qualifications:

The appointment requires:

  • a master’s degree in statistics with a solid foundation in statistical theory and additional knowledge of biostatistics
  • experience with applying statistical models to medical scientific issues
  • experience with statistical methods in register-based analyses (e.g., family-based models, structural equation models, longitudinal models)

The following is desirable for the appointment:

  • a doctorate in statistics or epidemiology
  • good knowledge of information stored in Statistics Sweden's and the National Board of Health and Welfare's nationwide registers or similar registers from other Scandinavian countries
  • experience from reporting studies in medical journals and a publication track record

Important personal qualities include strong collaborative and interpersonal skills, attention to detail and independence. Fluency in English and experience with writing sections in scientific texts in English are prerequisites. Proficiency in Swedish is considered a strong asset.
