We are interested in applicants with a strong commitment and interest in innovation from an economic- historical perspective, especially the funding of innovations, using both qualitative and quantitative methods based on historical databases. Proficiency in Swedish, or a related Scandinavian language, is an advantage, but not a requirement.
The sub-project uses SWINNO, a database on Swedish innovations, as well as other source material, such as company interviews, micro-databases on funding, and historical statistics, to answer questions about what role public funding has played for innovation, both in contemporary and historical contexts. In particular, the project aims to link innovations in SWINNO with data on public funding, and contrast whether projects receiving public funding were more likely to be successful in terms of culminating in an innovation. Another objective is to analyze changes in policy over time and the changing relationship between public agencies and innovating agents. Of importance is also to understand the barriers and constraints for challenge-driven innovation through the funding programs. This may be done through primary data collection through interviews with key actors at funding agencies as well through analysis of secondary data.
