We are offering a fully-funded two-year postdoctoral position in Programming Tools at Lund University, funded by the Wallenberg Autonomous Systems and Software Programme (WASP). We are looking for a strong PhD graduate to expand our research activities in the area of software technology.

The position is closely connected to the WASP Research Arena for Software, a recent initiative to bridge academic research in software technology and industrial practice in Sweden.

Subject description
The subject area for this position is Software Technology.

Work duties
The main duties involved in a post-doctoral position is to conduct research. Teaching may also be included, but up to no more than 20% of working hours. The position includes the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning.

The work duties includes:

  • 20% of working hours committed to activities related to the “WARA for Software” or (with the agreement of the supervisor) similar academia-industry bridge activities.  These activities include co-organising workshops, giving talks aimed at a practitioner audience, conducting or supporting industrial evaluation of academic research or applied industrial research, and supporting WASP graduate school activities linked to the WARA.
  • Supervision of PhD and MSc students within the subject area
  • Helping write grant proposals
  • Collaborating with industry and external academic researchers
  • Administrative talks related to the above activities

Qualification requirements
Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

The candidate should have:

  • A strong research background in Software Technology, ideally Program Analysis
  • In-depth knowledge of at least two of the following:
    -Compiler Construction or Program Analysis tools
    -Object-Oriented Programming
    -Functional or Logic Programming
  • Experience and demonstrated strong interest in at least one of: industrial software engineering, academic outreach to practitioners, or project management and supervision.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.

Assessment criteria and other qualifications
This is a career development position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in a career, and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their research qualifications and potential as researchers. Particular emphasis will be placed on research skills within the subject.

For appointments to a post-doctoral position, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • A good ability to develop and conduct high quality research.
  • Teaching skills.

Additional assessment criteria:

  • A publication record related to the subject area
  • Excellent programming skills, demonstrated e.g. through industrial or Open Source software development
  • A good ability to collaborate

We will give preference to candidates with additional background in one or more of the following:

  • Empirical Evaluation of Software Technology
  • Industrial or Open Source software development experience
  • Source-Level Program Transformation Design and implementation of Domain-Specific
  • Languages Machine Learning
  • Robotics

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the research group, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

Terms of employment
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of 2 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow”) between Lund University, SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated 4 September 2008.
