Appointment
Employment for an indefinite period as a senior lecturer in experimental or clinical oncology, at present based at the Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund. The appointment is funded by a grant from Mrs. Berta Kamprad's Cancer Foundation. When the funding from Mrs. Berta Kamprad's Cancer Foundation ends, the Department of Clinical Sciences in Lund assumes responsibility for the funding of the employment, which means that research funds available to the employee may be charged.
The subject of oncology
Oncology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study, classification and treatment of tumours. Experimental oncology includes studies of disease mechanisms and diagnostics, and treatment research within experimental systems such as cell cultures and animal models. Clinical oncology includes clinical treatment research, such as clinical trials and clinical epidemiological research.
Duties
The appointment is intended to strengthen strategically important research in the field of oncology at the Oncology Section of the Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund.
The successful candidate will be expected to establish and develop their own line of research within the field of experimental and/or clinical oncology that can collaborate with and reinforce established clinical cancer research. The intention of the appointment is to strengthen the department’s research, as well as its education at first, second and third cycle.
The duties of the position are primarily related to research and development work in the field of experimental and/or clinical oncology. Duties also include teaching and supervision at first, second and third cycle, administrative tasks and cooperation with the surrounding community. Other duties may also be involved. For applicants in the field of clinical oncology, the position may be combined with an appointment as a specialist or senior physician at the Oncology Unit at Skåne University Hospital.
Qualifications
Pursuant to Section 4 of Chapter 4 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 1993:100), a person qualified for appointment as a senior lecturer is someone who has demonstrated teaching expertise and been awarded a doctorate or has the corresponding research competence or other professional expertise that is valuable for the post’s subject matter and duties. For applicants in clinical oncology, specialist expertise in the subject is required.
Pursuant to Lund University’s Appointment Rules, unless there are special reasons to the contrary, applicants for appointment as a senior lecturer must have undergone at least five weeks of training in teaching and learning in higher education, or have acquired equivalent knowledge and expertise in some other way. In the event that the successful candidate is deemed to have special reasons for not having five weeks of training in teaching and learning in higher education on taking up the appointment, they shall complete the required training within the first two years of employment.
If the position is combined with employment as a specialist or senior physician in oncology, on taking up the appointment, the applicant is required to have the necessary proficiency in the Swedish language as defined by the National Board of Health and Welfare (the National Board of Health and Welfare can also certify equivalent proficiency in Norwegian or Danish).
Assessment criteria
The applicant shall have demonstrated research and teaching expertise of relevance to the subject experimental or clinical oncology. When assessing qualifications, particular weight will be given to research expertise. The applicant shall present current research at a high level within the subject, as well as demonstrating in-depth knowledge of the subject as a whole. The applicant shall present publications at the highest level internationally, of which the applicant is the first or senior author.
Applicants are expected to be qualified for appointment as a docent or to have equivalent teaching and research qualifications. Postdoctoral experience at a higher education institution other than the one at which the applicant defended their doctoral thesis provides a useful qualification. Another useful qualification is provided by grants obtained in national and/or international competition.
Teaching expertise in the subject oncology will be considered significant in the assessment of qualifications. Consideration shall also be given to teaching expertise at first and second cycle, as well as the proven ability to supervise doctoral students.
The applicant shall have demonstrated leadership ability and the ability to interact with the surrounding community, as well as good collaborative ability. Great weight will be given to personal suitability.
A general qualification for employment as a teacher at Lund University is suitability for the position and the ability to otherwise fulfil the duties of the position to a high standard.
In addition to the provisions of the Higher Education Ordinance, Lund University’s Appointment Rules and the Faculty of Medicine’s general requirement profile and assessment criteria also apply to appointments as a senior lecturer.
