Project assistant at the Department of Automatic Control

The Department of Automatic Control at Lund University participates since 2021 in the research project EUROSTARS SelectiCa, financed by Vinnova. The project aims to build a robotic system for the food industry. The SelectiCa project is run in cooperation with the Department of Computer Science at Lund University, and the Danish company Proxima Centauri A/S.

The Lund University part of the project consists of analysis and choice of sensors suitable for the task, choice of robot and integration of hardware in a functioning prototype. Another task is the design and implementation of an intuitive user interface appropriate for non-specialists.

The project is led by Prof. Anders Robertsson (Automatic Control) and Prof. Jacek Malec (Computer Science).

Work duties

The work duties include participation in and contribution to the different parts of the research project (technology development, data collection, analysis, reports, presentations and communication) in collaboration with the project leaders according to the deliverables. In practice this means to contribute, in an engaged and curious way, with the following:

  • Development of a robotic system suitable for the task
  • Design and development of an intuitive user interface for the above system
  • Programming of digital parts of the above system
  • Reporting and communication: contribute to writing reports, academic papers and create presentations
  • Project administration and participation at internal project meetings

We will place great emphasis on personal suitability. Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen the administrative work within the unit/department, as well as contribute to its future development.

Qualifications

  • Education: at least MSc degree in engineering with specialization appropriate for the project, i.e., robotics, automatic control, computer science or mechatronics
  • Experience in working with sensor-based industrial robots
  • Good knowledge in relevant programming languages such as for example Python or C++
  • Documented very good knowledge in English, both spoken and written

Other merits

  • Work experience in projects or employment as research assistant within academia or industry
  • Experience of image processing, ROS, user interfaces and HRI
  • Good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written
  • Ability to assimilate, process and summarize scientific and other texts in English Good collaborative skills, drive and independance

Terms of employment

Fixed-term employment, 18 months, 100 %. Starting date according to agreement.
