The research group

The Cell Reprogramming in Hematopoiesis and Immunity group is now recruiting a full-time PhD student that will work in the project of Harnessing RNA reprogramming for cancer immunotherapy. The researchgroup is lead by Seior Lecturer Filipe Pereira and is a part of the Division of Molecular  Medicine and Gene Therapy. The group focuses on cell reprogramming, hematopoiesis, and the development of cell and gene immunotherapeutic strategies.

We are hereby looking for a highly talented and highly ambitious doctoral student to work on the project "Harnessing RNA reprogramming for cancer immunotherapy". The employment is limited to 4 years full time with the desired entry date of June 1st, 2021 or by arrangement.

Work duties and areas of responsibility

The main objectives for the doctoral candidate will be to conduct research education, which includes participation in and development of research projects but also to master graduate courses and state-of-the-art techniques. The majority of this work must be done independently and in collaboration with both internal and external members of the research group.

The position contains work on the development of a novel direct reprogramming strategy based on RNA. The goal is to reprogram non-hematopoietic cells to dendritic cells utilizing RNA. The successful candidate will be performing molecular cloning, lentiviral productions, work with mouse models, and also support the group by performing general laboratory organization and administration.

Qualifications

The following is required for the employment:

  • A MSc degree in Biochemistry, biomedicine or similar
  • Knowledge on molecular cloning techniques
  • Knowledge on lentiviral particle generation
  • The ability to work independently in the laboratory
  • Fluency in English
  • Very good writing skills and reading comprehension

Great emphasis will be placed on personal characteristics. The assignments require that you have the ability to work independently as well as the ability to collaborate and communicate with other scientists within and outside the research group. In addition, the tasks require the ability to prioritize their tasks, independency and a natural drive.

The following is meritorious for the employment:

  • Good knowledge of the cellular reprogramming or cancer immunotherapy fields
  • Experience in animal handling

The project is interdisciplinary and therefore candidates with a broad competence profile will be of particular interest.

Eligibility

Students with basic eligibility for third-cycle studies are those who- have completed a second-cycle degree- have completed courses of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are from second-cycle courses, or- have acquired largely equivalent knowledge in some other way, in Sweden or abroad.

The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships. When an appointment to a doctoral studentship is made, the ability of the student to benefit from PhD-studies shall primarily be taken into account. In addition to devoting themselves to their studies, those appointed to doctoral studentships may be required to work with educational tasks, research and administration, in accordance with specific regulations in the ordinance.
