The Department of Philosophy houses research and education in three subjects: Cognitive science, Practical philosophy and Theoretical philosophy. A shared ambition of all the department’s researchers is to contribute to their fields through publication in international peer-reviewed journals and with international publishers, and to collaborate with researchers from other departments and institutions in Sweden and abroad. http://www.fil.lu.se/en/ The department has an international profile and most research activities are conducted in English.

"Theoretical philosophy" should be understood in a broad sense, covering primarily epistemology, logic, philosophy of language, metaphysics and philosophy of science. The main current research strengths in theoretical philosophy in Lund concern the following fields.

  • Social ontology
  • Metaphysics of science
  • Formal, social and naturalized epistemology
  • Epistemology of the internet
  • Cognition and communication
  • Joint attention and social norms
  • Implicit bias
  • Decision-making, risk and uncertainty

For past and ongoing research at the unit, see https://www.fil.lu.se/en/research/theoretical-philosophy/.

This time we especially encourage applications within the above research strengths. For more information about the unit’s research in these and other areas, please visit the webpages of the members of the Theoretical philosophy unit - https://www.fil.lu.se/en/department/staff/#s5.

The successful applicant is expected to be present at the workplace and be part of and contribute to the research environment in the theoretical philosophy unit by participating in seminars and other research related activities.

The selection process will focus on scientific merits, as demonstrated in the applicant’s earlier research related to theoretical philosophy, the feasibility of the applicant’s research plan, and its relevance to our unit’s research profile.
