The Department of Clinical Sciences in Lund (IKVL) is one of six institutions at the Faculty of Medicine, Lund University. The department has a broad collaboration, both within the faculty and within other units at the University. IKVL also has a well-developed collaboration with Skåne University Hospital (SUS) and Region Skåne as well as the surrounding community and business. This is to promote clinical and experimental translational research, development and education.

Translational lung transplantation and lung cell therapy research | Lund Stem Cell Center

The research group now looking for a laboratory engineer/research engineer for a fixed-term employment, 2021-06-01 until 2022-05-31.

Work assignments

The holder of this position will be working both in a clinical setting with the collection of patient samples but also with translational research and the molecular analysis of samples from different species. Specifically, the work will include the generation of precision-cut lung slices (PCLS) from pig and human tissue and the subsequent culture and analysis of the PCLS samples. Most of the work will be carried out independently.

Further, the holder of this position will be working on different projects at the same time and therefore needs to be capable of organizing their time and able to adapt to new situations quickly.

Qualification requirements

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Biomedical Sciences or cell and molecular biology
  • Valid laboratory animal handling certificate accepted by Swedish authorities
  • Experience of working in a clinical environment
  • Background in lung biology and preferably lung regeneration
  • 1 year (or more) experience of working in a translational research lab
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including high proficiency in Swedish and English

A large emphasis will be placed on personal characteristics and the candidate must be highly motivated, responsible, good communication skill, have the ability to work independently as well as in teams. 

The following are considered to be a merit:

  • Studies within science at another university than the alma mater
  • Experience with the isolation and culturing of primary pulmonary cells but also cell lines
  • Experience with three-dimensional cell culturing systems, experience with precision-cut lung slices (PCLS) is highly advantagous
  • Experience with standard cell and molecular biology techniques such as cell viabiliy assays including LDH and WST-1, immunohistochemistry, qPCR
  • Hands-on experience of handling and dissection of lung tissue from laboratory animals
  • Experience in project management and documented experience in planning and organisation
