The Balder beamline is dedicated to XAS and XES techniques in energy range 2.4-40 keV. The beamline is in commissioning phase at the 3 GeV storage ring at the MAX IV Laboratory and is now in regular user operation. 

We are now looking for a temporary co-worker with a strong scientific background in XAFS and XES spectroscopy and a focus on paleo-biogeochemistry/environmental science to join our team. This position is shared between the Balder beamline at MAX IV, the Swedish Museum of Natural History and the Centre for Environmental and Climate Research, Lund University. Your research will be conducted within a multidisciplinary research environment split in two projects "Chemical Speciation of Catastrophes in Earth History" and “Molecular Interactions Controlling soil Carbon Sequestration – MICCS”, and your primary research will be using XAFS and XES spectroscopy. You are expected to aid in the development of new measurment stragies for standardarized samples to increase the efficiency of the mail-in experiments at Balder and to help building up reference libraries. As part of the Balder beamline team you are expected to participate in support to external users, in maintenance and further development of the beamline. You are also expected to promote X-ray spectroscopy to the paleo-biogeochemistry/environmental science community.

Qualifications
The successful candidate must have following qualifications:

  • PhD in the area of geochemistry, soil chemistry, biogeochemistry, physical chemistry or related disciplines.
  • Documented knowledge and practical experience in XAFS spectroscopy methodology (data acquisition and analysis).
  • More than 1 year’s experience of user support/local contacting at an XAS beamline.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Strong drive towards research publications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in teams and interact with a diverse group of scientists and technical staff in a dynamic environment.
