The holder of the position will participate in the research programme The establishment, growth and legacy of a settler colony. Quantitative panel studies of the political economy of the Cape Colony, funded by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond. She/he is expected to be able to work with statistical analysis of existing and new databases, with geographical distribution and mapping, and co-write articles as well as conduct independent own analyses.
The research duties are in this position supplemented with program coordination (30%) of the interdisciplinary Bachelors program in development studies (BIDS) at Lund University.
To be qualified for the employment the applicant must hold a PhD in Economic History or related discipline, e.g. Economics, Demography, Economic Geography, History.
Scholarly proficiency is the main requirement for employment.
For appointment, the candidate must have demonstrated a high degree of research expertise as manifested in publications. Experience of doing research in the subject area mentioned above will be the main criteria applied in the assessment of candidates. The holder of the position should also be competent and experienced enough to be able to carry out independent research in Economic History.
The evaluation will take the experience, knowledge and other personal qualities into consideration. The applicants’ ability to use their skills and experience to strengthen and supplement the existing research group in the programme will also be considered. The evaluation will also consider organisational skills, ability to coordinate an educational program, and a broad understanding of preconditions for teaching in development studies.
