Lund Univeristy, Faculty of Science, Department of Medical Radiation Physics

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

Workplace
The department of Medical Radiation Physics is engaged in research and education in ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, and its use mainly in medical applications. The major areas are magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), radiation therapy, X-ray physics, and nuclear medicine.

The MR physics research group (https://www.msf.lu.se/research/mr-physics-group), is active in the field of medical magnetic resonance, and has its primary focus on development of new techniques for assessment of functional information related to perfusion, diffusion, cortical activation/fMRI and flow. Emerging areas in the group encompass high field-studies using molecular imaging with non-metallic compounds as well as quantitative MRI in the brain and in the musculoskeletal system.

Work assignments
A postdoctoral fellow position is available at the Department of Medical Radiation Physics. We are looking for applicants who interested to work within the MR physics group on the development of methods for low-field MRI and quantitative MRI techniques that are applied in patient groups such as MS and SLE.

Great emphasis is placed on the ability to work interdisciplinary (i.e. in collaboration with researchers, doctors and international partners) and independently (i.e. through self-initiative, structuring and planning of original research). The MR Physics group has a large international collaborative network, which means that travel for planning and execution of various future collaborative projects will be needed. Teaching and supervision at the advanced level and postgraduate level may be included depending on departmental needs.

Qualifications
PhD in magnetic resonance imaging, medical radiation physics or equivalent.

MSc or BSc in physics or equivalent.

Meritorious
-Documented good knowledge of MR physics
-Documented research in quantitative MRI
-Experience with low-field MRI
-Documented experience in writing scientific articles in international journals (first author)
-Documented good working knowledge of programming in MATLAB and Python
-Experience in pulse-programming
-Fluent in English, written & spoken
-Previous international experience (doctoral or post doctoral level).

Qualification requirements
Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

Assessment criteria and other qualifications
This is a career development position focused primarily on research. The position is intended as an initial step in a career, and the assessment of the applicants will be based primarily on their research qualifications and potential as independent researchers.

Particular emphasis will be placed on research skills within the subject.
Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive, and independence.

Terms of employment
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of a maximum of 2 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow”) between Lund University, SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated 4 September 2008.

Instructions on how to apply
Applications shall be written in English and contain:
-Résumé/CV, including a list of publications
-Cover letter with a general description of past research and future research interests (no more than three pages)
-Contact information of at least two references
-Copy of the doctoral degree certificate, grades for the PhD, MSc, and BA studies, and other certificates/grades that you wish to be considered.
