This project aims to clarify the dynamics behind the long-run development process – through the lens of gender equality – from pre-industrial times until today. We know very little about how much and through what mechanisms gender equality affected the long-term development process. The project will collect and gather an extensive database about demographic, socio-economic, and cultural variables, in a regional comparative perspective.
Statistical tools and advanced econometric methods will be applied to assess the causal relationships between gender equality and demographic and economic developments – using spatial and temporal variation, and accounting both for adjustment and diffusion explanations. The project will explore national and regional variations in France and Sweden and analyze how these variations can be explained by social, economic, demographic, cultural, and institutional factors. The comparison of France and Sweden will add further contribution in uncovering the origins and dynamics behind the virtuous circle of societal and economic development experienced by Western Europe over the past two hundred years.
Fixed-term employment, maximum four years (fulltime studies).
Only those admitted to third-cycle courses and study programmes at a higher education may be appointed to doctoral student.
