The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

The research group

In the research group Associative Learning we study motor learning and memory of quantitative information in the nervous system. Our research is at the forefront within classical conditioning and learning of temporal intervals. We are a small team of researchers (Fredrik Johansson, Germund Hesslow and Anders Rasmussen) as well as technical staff. The research group is located at the Biomedical Centre ("BMC") in Lund.

Within the research group, we care about a good working environment, and strive to maintain a stimulating environment for all employees.

We are now recruiting a Ph.D. student for a research project which will study learning of temporal intervals in neurons. The position is limited to 4 years full-time, starting 1 September 2021 or according to agreement.

As a Ph.D. student in the research group you are first and foremost responsible for your thesis project according to an individual study plan that will be set up at the start of your project. The primary tasks are to perform electrophysiological experiments, analyze sampled data as well as reading and writing scientific papers. Additional shared responsibilities include for example maintenance of the laboratory environment and participation in joint scientific activities. Conference participation abroad may be required about once a year.

Qualifications

-  Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities. The ability of applicants to cooperate and work independently will be taken into account.

Desired qualifications:

- Experience of bachelor's or master's level thesis work in neurophysiology

- Experience of neurophysiological studies with cell recordings in vivo or in vitro

- Experience of data analysis from cell recordings

- Familiarity with software such as MATLAB, R or similar, alternatively of programming
