Lund University announces one or more tenure track positions as associate senior lecturer in economic history. This full-time position is temporary (four years) placed at the Department of Economic History, but with a possibility after application to be promoted to a permanent position as senior lecturer.

Work tasks

The position consists of both research (about 60%) and teaching in the subject area of economic history. Administrative tasks can also be included. Teaching can be at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate level.

The scope of the position shall also provide an opportunity for training in teaching and learning in higher education corresponding to at least five weeks.

Eligibility

To be employed as associate senior lecturer applicants must have a PhD or the corresponding foreign degree within the subject area economic history, or equivalent scientific competence, no more than five years before the last day of application.

Assessment criteria

Applicants must be experienced and show competence within the subject area economic history.

It is desirable that applicants who do not have Swedish as their mother tongue gain reasonable knowledge of Swedish during the time of employment.

For appointments to associate senior lecturer, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • a good ability to develop and carry out high-quality research and teaching skill.

The Department of Economic History aims at a balance between research and teaching. Equal importance will be given to the scholarly and pedagogical skills when assessing the applicants. Administrative competence is also taken into account.

In the overall assessment of scholarly skills special weight will be given to publications in international peer reviewed journals and the applicant’s ability to receive external research funding. Moreover, the ability to collaborate with the surrounding society and to inform about research will be considered.

The overall assessment of pedagogical qualifications include training in teaching and learning in higher education, pedagogical experience and pedagogical skills.

Promotion to Senior Lecturer

After application, an associate senior lecturer should be promoted to a permanent position as senior lecturer, if he or she is qualified for such an appointment and assessed as adequate according to the appointment rules and current eligibility and assessment criteria for promotion to senior lecturer (see below).

An associate senior lecturer can only apply for promotion once. The application should be submitted to Lund University School of Economics and Management no later than six months before the position as associate senior lecturer ends.

The overall assessment basis is that the applicant must show a strong progression in the ability to conduct teaching and research. The assessment criteria for a promotion in the present case are that the applicant has shown:

  1. Well-proven scientific competence that is important with regard to the employment's subject content and the work tasks that must be included in the employment. This includes 4 publications during the employment period as associate senior lecturer in publications that are on the Norwegian list, of which at least 3 in international academic journals of good quality.
  2. Well-proven pedagogical skills. Particular emphasis will be placed on documented ability to conduct teaching and supervision at different levels and that teaching competence has developed over time. Course evaluations are expected to be included in the documentation on pedagogical skills.
  3. Well-qualified pedagogical education by having participated in training in teaching and learning in higher education comprising at least 5 weeks (7.5 credits).
  4. Progression in the academic leadership through increased ability to develop, lead and conduct education and research and/or shown interest/leadership in common departmental tasks.
  5. Documented ability during the employment period as associate senior lecturer to successfully formulate research applications for external funding.
  6. Good ability to collaborate with the surrounding community and to inform about research.
  7. Other personal ability that is of importance to fulfil the working tasks in a satisfactory way.
