Subject description
The researcher will work in the area of strongly correlated electron physics, with a particular focus on magnetic materials.  The primary experimental tools will be the application of high pressure in combination with neutron and X-ray scattering methods.

Work duties

  • Research within the subject area (chief work duty).
  • Research into magnetic material.
  • High pressure research on magnetic materials at large-scale facilities.
  • Development of suitable pressure cells for neutron scattering experiments.
  • Preparing and carrying out experiments at large-scale facilities.
  • Teaching in the third cycles of studies
  • Opportunity for training in higher education teaching and learning shall be given if teaching is part of the work duties.
  • Supervision of degree projects and doctoral students.

Qualification requirements
Applicants must have:

  • A PhD or equivalent research qualification within the subject of the position.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.

Assessment criteria and other qualifications
The following shall form the primary assessment criteria:

  • A good ability to develop and conduct high quality research in the area of magnetic materials at high pressure.

Additional assessment criteria (in order of importance) are:

  • Experience with high pressure research at large-scale facilities on solid materials.
  • Experience with diffraction and crystallography.
  • Experience with Mossbauer techniques.
  • Experience with neutron scattering methods.
  • Experience with low temperature experimental equipment.
  • Experience with engineering simulations, in particular with respect to the design of pressure cells.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

Terms of employment
Fixed-term employment for 2 years.
The scope of the employment, full time.
