Work duties

The position is linked to the research group within the Division of Nuclear Physics (Department of Physics, LTH) that conducts research on atmospheric aerosols and their role in climate and health effects.

We are looking for a researcher to work on a one-year research project, funded by FORMAS, which aims to investigate how the lockdown in Europe due to the Covid-19 pandemic affected Swedish air quality. Special focus is placed on so-called secondary particles formed from gases. The researcher will perform analyzes of already existing data. These data are derived from long-term measurements of both gases and airborne particles, mainly from measuring stations in background air, but also measurements performed by Swedish municipalities. The spring of 2020, when several countries introduced restrictions on human mobility, will be compared with previous years. To a large extent, annual variations in air quality are due to changes in meteorology, which must be taken into account. The researcher will have contact with several municipalities and universities - mainly in Sweden - to coordinate the project.

Work duties include:

  • Analysis of large amounts of air quality data, mainly from on-line aerosol instruments
  • Analyze air quality data based on source region and meteorology
  • Project management and coordination with participating municipalities and researchers
  • Compile the results in a final report and one or more scientific articles

Qualification requirements

Applicants must have:

  • A PhD or equivalent research qualification within the subject of the position.
  • Experience in analysis of air quality data.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.

Assessment criteria and other qualifications

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development. Speaking and understanding Swedish (or Danish, Norwegian) is an advantage.

Terms of employment

Fixed-term employment, 100 % researcher, 1 year.
