The Department of Business Administration at Lund University School of Economics and Management (LUSEM) wishes to recruit a postdoctoral fellow (fixed term, 2 years).

Subject description

The postdoctoral position is located in the Strategy group at the Department of Business Administration and we are interested in applicants who wish to do research on strategic decision-making particularly in a long-term context. We are particularly interested in projects that focus on how firms prepare for future change, including scenario analysis, foresight and similar forms of decision support.

Work tasks

The postdoc holder will be expected to do empirical work on how decision-makers approach long-term challenges, the methods and models used, and enablers/barriers they face in coming to grips with the future.

The position provides time for independent as well as collaborative work. Specific focus will be subject to agreement but is expected to conform to the general orientation of the subject description. The applicant should be prepared to work in empirical proximity with practitioners in setting research agendas, collecting data and interpreting research results in policy and industry relevant terms. Teaching may be added up to maximum 20% of the working time, but typically no teaching is expected during the first year of appointment.

Eligibility

To be qualified for employment as a postdoctoral fellow, the candidate must have a PhD in business studies, technology management, innovation studies, sociology/political science or other relevant social science awarded no more than three years ago (unless the applicant has been on parental leave or leave due to illness).  The applicant must be in possession of a PhD at time of application or by the deadline for application.

Requirements

For appointment as postdoctoral fellow, the candidate must demonstrate a good ability to develop and carry out high-quality research, and teaching skills.

The candidate must have:

  • Track record of research and publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
  • Documented experience (as demonstrated by publications) in either strategic management, innovation studies, science and technology policy, behavioral economics, cognitive psychology, group sociology, future studies, or similar fields.
  • Broad familiarity with the literature on strategy, industry dynamics, innovation, foresight and scenario planning.
  • Ability to work well with academics and practitioners alike
  • Strong English language skills (verbal and written)
  • International experience

Assessment criteria

The main selection criteria are research skills, demonstrated relevance to the subject description and fulfilment of the eligibility/requirement criteria. The ability to conduct research independently and to participate in research collaborations are very important considerations. The successful candidate is expected to focus on producing papers for highly ranked academic journals, while also informing policy and practice through other contributions.

Terms of employment

The salaried position as a postdoctoral fellow is a fixed term, two-year full-time employment at the Department of Business Administration, Lund University School of Economics and Management, Lund. The successful candidate is expected to work full time in Lund for the duration of the position.
