Subject description
Lund University is seeking qualified candidates for a researcher position based at the Department of Biology. The project is funded by an ERC Starting Grant led by Dr Nathalie Feiner. The project involves a detailed analysis of colour pattern variation in wall lizards (genus Podarcis).

Work duties
Work duties for the project to carry out consists largely of analysis of an existing dataset. These include:

  • Full spectrum quantification of coloration from digital photographs (UV + VIS)
  • Development of methodology to model the visual sensitivities by deriving cone-catch values from multispectral data
  • Development of methodology to quantify dorsal patterning
  • Statistical analysis of colouration and morphometric data
  • Dissemination of the acquired insights, including writing of scientific publications
  • Active participation in scientific discussions
  • Design of future experiments including obtaining collection permits for future field work

Qualification requirements
Appointment to this researcher position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

Additional requirements:

  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English
  • Expertise in the collection and analysis of spectrophotometry data
  • Prior experience with analyses of animal patterning and colouration
  • Background in herpetology is required
  • Proficiency in Spanish is advantageous
