Subject Environmental and Energy Systems Studies

Subject description Environmental and Energy Systems Studies is an interdisciplinary division at the Department of Technology and Society. The subject includes to study energy and environmental issues in a regional, national and global long term perspective. Environmental and energy systems are conre stones of the research and teaching at the division. Another focus is the societal handling of environmental issues. At the divsions we have teaching on environmental protection and environmental and energy systems analysis. The courses are given to civil engineering programmes at LTH, and some are also open to other students and professionals. Apart from introductory coursen in sustainable development, energy systems and environmental science, we give specialised courses on e.g. resource use, waste management, climate change, renewable energy, life cycle analysis, environmental impact assessment and envrionmental management.

Work duties The work duties include:

  • Teaching in first, second and third cycles of studies in the courses given by the division
  • Supervision of degree projects
  • Course development
  • Management and coordination of teaching at the division
  • Administration related to the above work duties

Qualification requirements Appointment as lecturer requires that the applicant has:

  • Completed a second-cycle degree or acquired corresponding knowledge and has other skills of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will invlove.
  • Demonstrated teaching expertise.
  • Completed five weeks of training in higher education and learning, or acquired equivalent knowledge by other means.

Additional requirements:

  • Very good written and oral proficiency in Swedish and English.

Assessment criteria For appointment as a lecturer, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • Good knolwedge of the subject of relevance for the employment and the included work duties. Specific weight is given to subject knowledge in environment, energy and sustainable development.
  • Good pedagogic competence, which means good ability to carry out and develop teaching and other pedagogical activites at different levels and with varied teaching methods.
  • Very good professional experience or other experience of relevance to the employment.

Other assessment criteria:

  • Experience of teaching in civil engineering programmes is a merit.
  • Completed doctoral degree in a subject area of relevance to the employment is a merit.

Consideration will also be given to ability to co-operate, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

Terms of employment Permanent position, 100 %. Probationary employment might be applied.
