Job description

Lund University announces one position as associate senior lecturer in economics specializing in applied microeconomics with a focus on health and labour economics.

The position is full time, with placement at the Department of Economics, Lund University School of Economics and Management. The position as an associate senior lecturer is limited to a four-year period with the possibility of a promotion to a permanent position as a senior lecturer if the person in question is eligible for such employment according to the requirements discussed below under Promotion.

The position involves both teaching (35%), research (60%), and administrative tasks (5%). Teaching can be at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels.

The scope of the position shall also provide an opportunity for training in teaching and learning in higher education corresponding to at least five weeks.

The salary range is between SEK 460,000 – 520,000 per year depending on qualifications. The salary will be renegotiated to a competitive level within the specialization if and when the candidate is promoted to senior lecturer.

Eligibility and qualification requirements

Qualified to be employed as an associate senior lecturer in economics, is a person who has been awarded a Ph.D. degree in economics not more than five years before the application deadline. (Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4, Section 4 a)

The successful candidates must have proven competence and experience in the field of applied microeconomics with a focus on health and labour economics.

Since the research environment at the Department of Economics is highly international and since the position includes teaching and tutorials in English, a good command of the English language is required.

A Ph.D. degree from outside of the Lund University School of Economics and Management is a strong merit.

The department will favor candidates who can document successful research and teaching in applied microeconomics with a focus on health and labour economics.

Assessment criteria

Good abilities to develop and implement high-quality research and the pedagogical abilities are the basis for the assessment of the position.

Furthermore, the ability to collaborate with the surrounding society and to inform about research and development is also considered in the assessment.

The School of Economics and Management strives for a balance between research and teaching in all positions.

The overall evaluation of the pedagogical qualifications includes both pedagogical experience and skill.

In the overall assessment of the scientific skills, a particular emphasis will be placed on publications and the possibility to publish in highly ranked journals that use the international peer-review system and that are relevant for economics (see the department’s list of journals; https://nek.lu.se/en/journals).

In addition, the ability to obtain external research grants is also included as an assessment of the scientific skills.

Promotion

An associate senior lecturer can be promoted to a permanent position as a senior lecturer if she or he fulfills the eligibility requirements according to Lund University’s employment regulations 4.3.4 (https://www.staff.lu.se/sites/staff.lu.se/files/2021-03/lund-university-appointment-rules-201215.pdf) and the following qualification requirements of the department:

1) High scientific skills
a) The conditions below are based on the journal list published here: https://nek.lu.se/en/journals
b) Condition 1 (high quality). One of the following conditions must be fulfilled when it comes to publications:
i) 2 A
ii) 1 A och 2 B*
iii) 1 A*
c) Condition 2 (productivity and independence): The applicants needs at least 16 points from publications ranked as B or higher. A single authored publication has the following points; A*=20, A=10, B*=5, B=2 and b=1. Each additional author reduces the total number of points with 10 percentage units. Hence, an A-publication with three authors gives 8 points while the same article with five authors gives 6 points. Publications with more than ten authors give zero points.
2) High pedagogical skills
a) At least 1500 hours of teaching (so-called clock hours, which includes preparations).
b) Five weeks of pedagogical education.
3) An good ability to cooperate with the society outside academia and a high degree of collegiality.
