Subject description
The researcher will perform experimental research on enhanced heat transfer in microchannels manufactured by additive manufacturing (AM). The channels will have various surface roughness inherent to the AM technology. The channels are aimed for cooling hot components in gas turbines using hydrogen-rich fuels.

This position is research-oriented in close cooperation with Siemens Energy AB, Sweden. The researcher is expected to interact with master students, PhD students and visiting scholars at the department of Energy Sciences and contribute in meetings and seminars.

The main work duties involve:

  • experimental research on convective heat transfer in laboratory environment
  • tuning and adjustment of the experimental test rig to improve opportunities for heat transfer and fluid flow measurements
  • contribute to design of innovative microchannels
  • develop novel microstructured surfaces to enhance heat transfer
  • characterization of microstructures by, e.g., SEM (scanning electron microscope)
  • analysis of experimental data and establishing correlations
  • Based on the research findings from well-designed and justified experiments as well as proper analyses, joint publications in well-established scientific thermal-sciences journals should appear to disseminate the achievements.

Qualification requirements
The applicant must have:

  • a PhD within a subject relevant for the position
  • a PhD in disciplines of Mechanical Engineering (especially heat transfer and thermodynamics) or Chemical Engineering
  • experiences from experimental heat and mass transfer
  • good oral and excellent written proficiency in English

Other qualifications

  • Research skills within the subject
  • Good ability to develop and conduct high quality research
  • Experimental expertise in heat and mass transfer
  • Experience and familiarity of gas turbine heat transfer
  • Ability to publish in highly ranked scientific journals
  • The senior researcher must have high passion for research, be aim-driven, and be able to work independently.

The research is in close cooperation with R & D staff at Siemens Energy AB, Sweden and thus good collaborative skills are important. Experiences from relevant areas of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics and chemical engineering, are of special value.

Terms of employment
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of one year and two months.
