The research group

The research group for Family medicine and community medicine conducts research in drug-related problems in older adults. Research has been at the forefront in this area for many years. The research group is led by Professor Patrik Midlöv and includes both research and technical staff. This position will be placed at Clinical Research Centre in Malmö. We are looking for a motivated assistant researcher for a temporary full-time position of 4 months, with starting date according to agreement.

Work duties

This research project aims to explore the fundamental mechanisms behind the drug-related problems with a focus on drug-induced liver injury in the elderly patients who take multiple medications and supplements. This project features altered drug metabolism, metabolic incompetence, detoxification enzymes capability profiling, drug-drug interactions, and how it related to the clinical outcomes. 

As an assistant researcher, you will use a wide range of computational techniques (docking, chemoinformatics, homology modeling and refinement, molecular dynamics simulations, and computational enzymology) to characterize the offending agent and study molecular mechanisms behind the superscription medications, OTC drugs, and herb and dietary supplements.

Qualifications

The following qualifications are required:

  • A PhD in computational biology or related fields
  • Very good knowledge of the computational enzyme methods including QM/MM, EVB but not limited to above
  • Strong expertise in both protein structure modeling and small molecule docking
  • Experience in toxicity prediction
  • Strong programming/ scripting skills
  • Several years of research experience with similar work duties

Special emphasis will be placed on certain personal characteristics. We are looking for someone who is independent throughout the whole research process, is highly motivated and has good co-operation skills.

Further, the following are considered a merit:

  • Experience of Dock3.7, Modeller and Molaris.
  • Very good knowledge both in written and spoken English.
