Department of Experimental Medical Science

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

In the research group Neural Stem Cells, we conduct research on how the brain develops. For several years, our research has been at the forefront of the stem cell field. We use reprogramming, iPS cells, stem cells and neural differentiation to create and study models of human brain development. Furthermore, we use the knowledge we develop about human neural stem cells to develop new cell-based treatments. The group is led by Professor Anna Falk and consists of both researchers and technical staff. We are located at the Biomedical Center in Lund. Here you can read more about our exciting research: https://www.stemcellcenter.lu.se/research-groups/falk

We safeguard a good work environment with respect, clarity and compassion in our relationships with each other. We work constantly to create good conditions for job satisfaction, development and participation for all employees.

We are at this point looking for a Postdoc in iPS cells including investigating their potential in cell therapy. The employment is full-time for 2 years according to a central agreement on fixed-term employment as a postdoctoral fellow. The planned start date is 1 November 2021 or by agreement.

As a Postdoc in the research group, you are responsible for designing, performing, producing data, analyzing and reporting (both in written and oral form) on scientific projects, in collaboration with the research group leader and other members of the group. Your duties mainly include establishment, culture, characterization, genetic modification, differentiation and studies of iPS cells (induced pluripotent stem cells). Furthermore, you will be responsible for driving the development of iPS cells as a starting material for cell therapies, which also includes administrative work and collaboration with other disciplines. You will use cell and molecular biology methods such as cloning, CRISPR editing, RT-PCR, immunostaining and microscopy, Western blot and flow cytometry, analysis of single cell and bulk RNA sequencing data. Other existing tasks within the research group may also be relevant, such as involvement in other projects in the research group, administration, conference travel, presentations of research and supervision of students. As a postdoc with a focus on iPS cell therapies, you will be involved in building, operating and developing this field in Sweden.

A post-doctoral employment is established for an employee with a doctoral degree or has a foreign degree that is deemed to correspond to a doctoral degree and who has completed the degree no more than 3 years before the end of the application period. If there are special reasons, the doctoral degree may have been completed earlier. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical service, positions of trust within trade unions or other similar circumstances.

When employed as a postdoctoral fellow, the following assessment criteria apply:
good ability to develop and carry out research of good quality as well as pedagogic skills.

When employing as a postdoctoral fellow, scientific competence will primarily be taken into account. In other respects, the assessment is made on the basis of the following requirements for the employment:

  • Completed doctoral studies in stem cell biology, neurobiology, molecular biology or equivalent
  • Documented experience of reprogramming and human iPS cells at PhD and postdoctoral level
  • Experience of neural differentiation of iPS cells
  • Ability to plan and use molecular methods such as cloning, CRISPR, Western blot, RT-PCR, flow cytometry, immunostaining and microscopy.
  • Documented experience of bioinformatics analysis of RNA sequencing data (both bulk and single cell)
  • Good ability to function well in collaborative projects within the group, with other research groups as well as with other disciplines
  • Documented good ability to present research in speech and writing in English

Great emphasis will be put on personal qualities. The tasks require you to be structured, accurate and persistent.

The following criteria is meriting for the position:

  • Translational work and work with innovation
  • Work in microfluidic system
  • Protein biology such as proteomics and immunoprecipitation
  • Standardization of methods and cells
  • Administrative tasks
  • Leadership
  • Interdisciplinary collaborations
  • Good ability to supervise students

Terms

The employment is limited to a maximum of two years employment and refers to full-time. The employment is limited by agreement, "Agreement on time-limited employment as postdoctor", between social partners dated 2008-09-04 (Arbetsgivarverket, OFRs, Saco-S and SEKO).

Instruktions for application
