Job assignments

This position is connected to the Energimydigheten funded research project: Navigating Justice Claims in the energy transition. The project uses a mix of moral philosophy and social science qualitative research methods with a focus on Sweden, Germany and South Africa.

The researcher assistant to be hired is expected to contribute to the project through supporting research on the South African case study. This will involve literature reviews, carrying out interviews and policy analysis and contributing to publications. The researcher will be guided by the project team and work closely with Dr Vasna Ramasar. Previous experience working on energy issues in developing country contexts is highly regarded.

Qualifications and assessment

A Masters degree in a field of relevance to the position, i.e. human ecology, sustainability science, other relevant social science or humanities disciplines or interdisciplinary research.

  • You are expected to have fieldwork experience in South Africa.
  • The ability to develop and conduct high quality research.
  • Documented research expertise through dissertation and/or other publications.
  • Methodological qualifications and experience of qualitative research methods including interviews
  • Fluent English (written and spoken) is a requirement.
  • Speaking another South African language is an advantage.
