Lunds universitet, Naturvetenskapliga fakulteten, kemiska institutionen

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

Subject description
Project concerns using polarization-controlled two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy (2DES) to investigate energy and electron transfer processes in the intact photosynthetic units. Different modalities of 2DES will be employed to study intact photosynthetic units in a few photosynthetic organisms both at cryogenic and physiological temperatures. The photosynthetic organisms that we are going to study include purple photosynthetic bacteria, green non-sulfur bacteria and eventually marine plants. The energy transfer pathways as well as efficiencies will be determined in the intact photosynthetic units. Whenever possible, electron transfer processes in the reaction centers of photosynthetic units will be also investigated.

Work duties
The first task will be updating the existing acquisition program and adapting it to the 64-bits computer.

Optimization of 2DES setup to carry out experiments on intact photosynthetic organism both at cryogenic and physiological temperatures.

Perform 2DES experiments on a few intact photosynthetic organisms, including photosynthetic bacteria and plants.

Performing analysis of acquired data.

Writing and submitting scientific papers on the findings obtained during the project.

Qualification requirements

Applicants must have:

  • A PhD within solid state physics, chemical physics or physical chemistry.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Hands on experience on ultrafast spectroscopy and data analysis of ultrafast spectroscopy data.
  • Proven record of published papers in international scientific journals.

Assessment criteria and other qualifications
Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, proven independence, and how applicant’s skills stand to contribute to departments future development.
