Researcher in Water Resources Engineering with focus on the Application of Artificial Intelligence

The Division of Water Resources Engineering (TVRL) is the largest one in terms of the number of employees at the Department of Building and Environmental Technology at LTH. Activities at TVRL include research, teaching and development of innovation focusing on water in both society and nature. TVRLs research is mainly focusing on costal hydraulics, hydrology, urban water, and water quality.

Subject description
Water resources and environmental issues such as dust storms involve many complexities and uncertainties and investigating these issues requires new methodologies and approaches such as state-of-the-art artificial intelligence algorithms. The employment involves research with focus on the application of artificial intelligence algorithms to investigate new real-world hydro-environmental problems with focus on the arid and semi-arid areas including the Middle East.

Work duties
Work duties of a researcher include mainly performing research in the subject area. Work duties include also:

  • Supervision of degree projects and doctoral students
  • Collaboration with industry and wider society
  • Multidisciplinary academic collaboration
  • Administration related to the work duties listed above.

Qualification requirements

Applicants must have:

  • A PhD within the subject of the position.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.

 

Assessment criteria and other qualifications

  • Experience of research collaboration in Water Resources Engineering/Environmental Management in arid areas, i.e., the Middle East.
  • Research experience in Interdisciplinary and International Projects.
  • Experience in researching on the application of artificial intelligence in hydro-environmental problems.
  • Good research abilities on the geospatial modeling of groundwater potential, aquifer recahrge, as well as landslides, gullies, and urban floods by using machine learning algorithms.
  • Proficiency in programming languages, such as Python, R, or Matlab, for modeling and software development as well as geographic information sciences, and remote sensing.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

 

Terms of employment
Fixed-term employment, 100%, start date 2021-12-01 or as agreed. This is a one year position
