The Research Group

Associate senior lecturer Nicholas Leigh leads the research group Regenerative Immunology at the Division of Molecular Medicine and Gene Therapy. Our overarching goal is to understand the factors that allow for highly regenerative species to perform remarkable acts of regeneration (e.g. limb regeneration). We are particularly focused on how the immune system promotes and allow for regeneration in salamanders. Please read more about our research here.

We are now looking for a laboratory assistant to proceed with the ongoing projects in the laboratory and to care for our new salamanders. The position is a full time position time limited to 1 year starting October 1, 2021, or according to agreement.

Work duties and area of expertise

As our laboratory assistant, you will help with the research in the ongoing the research projects in the group. You will take care of and manage our new salamander facility, which entails rearing and caring for various salamander species, monitoring water quality, cleaning tanks, and general management of our salamander colony. This position also entails generating transgenic salamander lines, including microinjections and the downstream genotyping. In addition, the tasks involve collaboration with industry and the wider society. Administration related to the tasks listed above as well as other common tasks in the laboratory will occur.

Qualifications

The position requires:

  • BS within a relevant field
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English
  • Experience in breeding, rearing, and caring for salamanders
  • Experience with CRISPR/Cas9 and generation of transgenic animals
