Subject description
Research and education in human geography addresses social, cultural, political and economic processes of change and their spatial expressions and consequences for people at different scales, whether local, regional or global. Three subjects are represented at the Department of Human Geography: human geography, development studies and human ecology. The latter is organised as a division within the department. Staff from all the subjects collaborate in research and teaching. Key research and teaching areas include economic geography, development geography, landscape geography, urban and social geography and GIS. Our staff and students use a number of different methods, focusing on mixed-methods and fieldwork.

Duties
The duties consist of teaching and research in human geography as well as acting as the department’s director of studies for the first three years, with a possible possibility of extension for another 3 years. Faculty-funded research/professional development accounts for 20% of full-time working hours, a percentage that may be increased through external grants. The director of studies role corresponds to 50% of full-time working hours. The remainder of the position consists of teaching and administration. In addition to conducting high-quality teaching and research in human geography, the successful applicant shall be responsible for the development and administration of study programmes and courses in human geography in a broad sense, including staff planning. The director of studies is a member of the department’s management group and collaborates both within the department and with the faculty.

Qualifications
Those qualified for appointment as a senior lecturer have been awarded a PhD or corresponding foreign qualification in human geography or have obtained equivalent research expertise. The applicant shall also demonstrate documented teaching expertise. The assessment criteria are a good ability to develop and conduct high-quality research, as well as teaching expertise. Additional qualifications are experience of developing and administrating education, as a programme or course director for example, and the ability to successfully compete for external research funding.

A documented ability to teach in English and Swedish is a requirement.

The applicant is to have completed five weeks of training in teaching and learning in higher education or have equivalent knowledge that has been acquired in some other way. If special circumstances apply, some of the training in teaching and learning in higher education can be scheduled during the first year of employment.
