Research group

The position is located at the Epigenetics and Diabetes Unit at Lund University Diabetes Centre (LUDC), which is a world-leading research environment enabled by strategic grants from the Strategic Research Foundation (SSF) and the Swedish Research Council (EXODIAB; Excellence of Diabetes Research in Sweden).

We are hereby advertising for a full time employment for four months as a research engineer. The desired starting date is 2022-01-01 or by agreement.

Work duties

As a research engineer in the group you are responsible for FACS sorting of human islets and analysis of gene expressions and DNA methylation in alfa and beta-cells.

The work duties include analysis of DNA methylation and gene expressions in FACS sorted beta- and alfa-cells from human islets in the pancreas.

The applicant will plan research experiments, generate gene constructs, grow and transfect cells, analyze gene expressions, DNA methylation and metabolic phenotypes. The applicant will also conduct statistical analysis of epigenetic data and results from cell culture experiments. The applicant will conduct validation experiments and analysis of epigenetic and expression results. Data will be summarized and the applicant will write manuscripts. The applicant will also have other duties such as administration and supervision based on the needs of the group.

Other duties relevant to the research group might also occur.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

  • PhD within the relevant field.
  • Good knowledge of type 2 diabetes and epigenetics.
  • Good knowledge in statistics.
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English, for example the ability to write and publish papers.

Personal characteristics

A large emphasis will be placed on personal characteristics. For example the ability to collaborate with other researchers, the ability to work independently and develop methods for metabolic analysis of beta cells and to have a good ability to supervise others within relevant fields.

Merits for the position are:

  • Experience in overexpression and silencing genes in human islets and beta cells.
  • Good knowledge in miRNA.
  • Good knowledge in cell culture and studying human islets.
  • Experience in studying metabolic factors such as ATP production and oxygen demand in cells with a manipulated gene expression.
  • Experience in studying the impact of miRNA on insulin secretion.
