Lund University, Department of Astronomy and Theoretical Physics

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

The Theoretical Particle Physics group has an opening for one or two two-year postdoctoral fellows in Particle Physics Phenomenology, starting in the autumn of 2022, or by agreement.

The Lund Theoretical Particle Physics group consists of eleven senior scientists, four post-doctoral fellows and eight PhD students. Christian Bierlich, Rikkert Frederix, Gösta Gustafson (emeritus), Leif Lönnblad, Stefan Prestel, Malin Sjödahl, Torbjörn Sjöstrand (emeritus) and Korinna Zapp work on various aspects of QCD and collider phenomenology, with emphasis on event generator development and applications thereof. Johan Bijnens mainly works on hadron and flavour physics, notably with chiral perturbation theory as a tool. Johan Rathsman and Roman Pasechnik are mainly working on the phenomenology of physics beyond the Standard Model, especially Higgs physics and unified gauge theories. Further information about the group can be found on the website https://www.atp.lu.se/tpp

We enjoy good relations with the experimental particle physics group in Lund, which is a member of ATLAS and ALICE, and which explores the possibility of fundamental physics experiments at the upcoming European Spallation Source in Lund and in the search for Dark Matter (LDMX).

Description of work
The main duties involved in a post-doctoral posistion is to conduct research. Teaching may also be included. The position includes the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning.

The postdoctoral fellow(s) should work on topics related to ongoing projects pursued by the group listed above, specifically within the area of precision physics at high energies, related to the activities of Rikkert Frederix, or the area of hadron, flavour or precision physics at low energies, related to the activities of Johan Bijnens. Please, indicate in your application which of the two areas you are interested in.

Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral fellow positions are research-focused appointments intended to form early stages of a science career. The position is intended as an initial step in a career, and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their research qualificationsand potential as researchers. Particular emphasis will be placed on research skills within the subject. The applicants should hold a PhD in theoretical particle physics or a nearby field not older than 3 years at the application deadline. We are primarily looking for applicants with solid experience in the subareas listed above.

Terms of employment
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of a maximum of 2 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow”) between Lund University, SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated 4 September 2008.

Application procedure
The application should be submitted electronically using the recruitment system of Lund University, https://www.lunduniversity.lu.se/vacancies . On the linked page to the current position click on the "Login and apply" button and follow instructions. Applications instead sent directly to one of the group members cannot be considered.

The application should consist of a CV, a copy of the PhD degree diploma or documents supporting that a PhD degree will be obtained by the start of the employment, a brief research plan, and a publication list. The names of three references should be included and they should be instructed to send letters of recommendation directly to rikkert.frederix@thep.lu.se before the application deadline.
