Faculty of Medicine, Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

The Department of Clinical Sciences in Lund (IKVL) is one of six institutions at the Faculty of Medicine, Lund University. The department has a broad collaboration, both within the faculty and within other units at the University. IKVL also has a well-developed collaboration with Skåne University Hospital (SUS) and Region Skåne as well as the surrounding community and business. This is topromote clinical and experimental translational research, development and education.

The research group
The research group Infection Medicine Proteomics (IMP) develops and uses proteomics to map the inflammatory response in sepsis and to study how circulating antibodies develop after an infection or after vaccination. The research group works closely with BioMS, a national research infrastructure in biological mass spectrometry, and has access to several modern mass spectrometers such as Oribitraps and TiMS-TOFs. IMP is an interdisciplinary research group with senior researchers, postdocs and doctoral students with expertise in clinical medicine, animal models, cell biology, proteomics and bioinformatics.

Within the department, we ensure a good working environment with respect and consideration in our relationships with each other. We are constantly working to create the conditions for job satisfaction, development and participation for all employees.

The research group is now looking for a assistant researcher for a temporary employment with proposed start date 2022-01-01 (or by agreement) and with an ending date 2023-12-15.

Work tasks
The aim of the project is to use animal models and quantitative mass spectrometry to map how the molecular inflammatory response changes depending on the time and type of pathogen with a focus on proteins and their post-translational modifications.

The tasks consist of establishing animal models for infection followed by isolation and preparation of relevant protein fractions. These protein fractions are then analyzed by quantitative mass spectrometry and the results are summarized by bioinformatics followed by functional analyzes of relevant proteins.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • PhD biology, biotechnology, chemistry or similar.
  • Hands-on experience in preparing samples for mass spectrometry analysis.
  • Hands-on experience in operating and performing mass spectrometry analysis.
  • Documented experience in performing bioinformatics analysis.
  • Previous research experience in sepsis and infectious diseases.
  • Hands on experience in working with animal models of infections and with various pathogens.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities. The tasks require that you are ambitious and motivated and can work independently. You need to have good communicative qualities and a high level of social competence.

Highly desirable:

  • MSc in bioinformatics.
  • International work experience.
  • Experience in working with pathogenic bacteria.
