The Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts is one of eight faculties within Lund University and includes Malmö Art Academy, Malmö Academy of Music and Malmö Theatre Academy, also Inter Arts Center and Choral Centre South. The Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts offers Bachelor and Master programs in visual art, music and drama, and various courses of different extent. The Faculty also runs third cycle (postgraduate) studies in artistic research and music education.
Background
Malmö Theatre Academy needs to strengthen its expertise in the areas of performing arts as critical practice, performing arts with a focus on social engagement, and performative practice. The department’s new international Master’s programme, which starts in January 2023, has its theoretical as well as practical basis in theatre, performance and socially engaged art. The programme aims to explore the performing arts as a platform for the formation of knowledge. In the task of conducting this programme, the department needs a programme director with a strong international network in the area of performing arts as critical practice. Due to the growing number of doctoral students at the department there is also an increased need for supervisory expertise in third cycle studies. Thus, the Malmö Theatre Academy sees a long-term need to strengthen the staff with a senior lecturer in the subject area of performing arts as critical practice. Duties
The position includes the role of programme director and teaching, supervision and assessment in Malmö Theatre Academy’s new Master’s programme. An important part of the work concerns leading and developing the second cycle study programme and courses as well as supporting and developing the existing partnerships with regional cultural institutions involved in the programme.
The duties also include involvement in the admission of students to the programme in the autumn of 2022 and supervision of individual doctoral students as well as other participation in the department’s third cycle education. The position also involves administrative work.
Qualification requirements
A person qualified as a senior lecturer in the performing arts has demonstrated teaching expertise, has been awarded a PhD in fine, applied or performing arts or equivalent, has demonstrated artistic expertise or has some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties it will involve.

In addition, there is a requirement for the applicant to have very good communication skills in English, orally and in writing. There is a requirement that the applicant has completed at least five weeks of training in teaching and learning in higher education, or equivalent. If special reasons apply, for example if the applicant in their previous position has due to circumstances not been able to obtain such knowledge, an appointment can be made nonetheless. The employee is then to undertake training in teaching and learning in higher education within the first two years of employment, in order to fulfil the requirement for training in teaching and learning in higher education.
Assessment criteria
The assessment criteria for appointment as a senior lecturer shall be the degree of the expertise required as a qualification for employment. As much attention shall be given to the assessment of teaching expertise as to the assessment of other qualifying criteria.

In the selection process for qualified candidates, equal importance will be given to artistic and teaching expertise. Particular importance will be given to teaching and artistic qualifications in performing arts as critical practice with a social focus. Consideration will also be given to good teamwork skills, experience of administrative work in the higher education sector, independence in artistic work, how the applicant, through their experience and expertise, is deemed to strengthen ongoing innovation in the department, and the ability to contribute to future development.
