The research group

The research in Glia-Immune Interactions group in centered around the glia-lymphatic (glymphatic) system, which is a cleaning system for solutes and proteins in the brain, and the role it plays in CNS-diseases. Disruption of the glymphatic system through disease or age can increase the risk of developing or worsening neurodegenerative disease. The goal of our work is to get a deeper understanding of the glymphatic system and the role it has in neurodegenerative disease. The research at the lab is very translational and uses animal disease models that are relevant to humans.

The group leader, Dr Iben Lundgaard, has received numerous grants, among others Wallenberg starting grant (15 MSEK), Research Council starting grant (6 MSEK) and starting grant from Olle Engkvists stiftelse (20 MSEK) through the Swedish Foundations’ Starting Grant initiative. The Lundgaard-lab has strong connections with several distinguished collaboration partners in Lund, Copenhagen and in the USA.

The lab is located at Biomedical Centre in Lund. Within the group we value a good working environment with respect and consideration for each other. The group is international and regularly hosts guest researchers and master students.
