Lund University School for Aviation calls for a lecturer. The working tasks consist of theoretical knowledge instruction and potentially flight instruction. Lund University School of Aviation is introduced at www.lusa.lu.se. The workplace will be Ljungbyhed airport.

Subject description

The subject area of Aeronautical Sciences is theoretical as well as practical and includes training at ATP-level (Airline Transport Pilot) as well as MPL (A) (Multi Crew Pilot License).

Work duties

The work tasks include acting as a theoretical knowledge instructor and possible also flight instructor. Theoretical knowledge instruction includes a responsibility for giving and developing theoretical training in several aeronautical subject matter areas within the ATP theory). Based on recently updated learning objectives we see it as important that a theoretical knowledge instructor has experience from flying as a commercial pilot in international operations.

Flight instructor responsibilities include flight instruction using LUSA’s single engine piston aircraft as well as simulators. Further, the work tasks include administrative duties; e.g. working on manuals not directly related to the teaching duties of the position.

The work tasks can also include:

  • Teaching at undergraduate level
  • Supervision of thesis work.
  • Collaboration with external organisations.
  • Administrative duties connected to all tasks above.
  • Communication and harnessing of good relations with different stakeholders in the education programmes.
  • Engage students and meet their needs for optimal results.

The work place is located to the airport in Ljungbyhed. The work hours are scheduled according to a local agreement on working hours work conditions at the Lund University School of Aviation (PE2010/607). The schedule is typically Mondays to Fridays 07.30-16.30, though for instance flight simulation training takes place before or after these times. Probationary employment may be applicable. 

Qualification requirements

Appointment as a lecturer requires that the applicant has:

  • Completed a second-cycle degree or acquired corresponding knowledge and has other skills of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve.
  • Demonstrated teaching expertise.
  • Completed five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning, or acquired equivalent knowledge by other means.

Additional requirements, points 1-5 all applicants, points 6-7 only applicants who also wish to conduct flight instruction:

  1. Several years of experience from theoretical knowledge instruction at ATPL level.
  2. Very good language skills in Swedish as well as English, written as well as spoken.
  3. The ability to engage students, create challenges and give support, in order to achieve optimal study results.
  4. Create and nurture good social relations in communication with students and other teachers.
  5. Extensive experience from flying commercially in an international environment.
  6. CPL(A) certificate, or MPL(A) certificate with ATP theory as well as FI certificate.
  7. At least 1500 hours as pilot in multi crew-environment

Assessment criteria

For appointments to lecturer, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • Good subject knowledge with relevance for the position and its working tasks.
  • Good pedagogical skills, which includes good abilities to conduct and develop teaching and other pedagogical activities at different levels and with varying teaching methods.
  • Very good work experience or other experience of relevance for the position.

Other assessment criteria:

  • FI
  • IRI
  • CRI or TRI.
  • 200 hours as flight instructor.
  • Type rating on B737, A320, ATR72 or other jet/turboprop aircraft.
  • Documented experiences of administrative work including good knowledge and skills in general computer/IT work.
