About the position
The position is linked to the ongoing research program and Strategic Research Area “Middle East in the Contemporary world”, which is coordinated by professor Karin Aggestam, and professor Ronny Berntsson, Centre for Advanced Middle Eastern Studies (CMES). The position as researcher is focused on conducting research on youth and political activism in the Middle East. Ten years ago, during the Arab Spring, youth across the Arab region joined the mass uprisings. These activists organized themselves into various networks and groups that collectively can be identified as new youth revolutionary social movements. In addition, the researcher is expected to assist with the expansion of the research infrastructure and societal outreach at CMES. The position is formally placed at the Dept of Political Science but the researcher will be based at CMES.

Qualifications
PhD in Political Science is a requirement. Research skills and academic merits is the main selection criteria. Excellent command in spoken and written English is required as well as proficiency in Arabic. The ability to conduct independent research and to contribute to the MECW-research program are significant considerations. Specifically, we are looking for candidates with a research profile that includes experience of field work, expertise in social movement theory and Middle Eastern Studies.
