Post-doctoral position in Biotechnology with focus on medical biotechnology - Hiring in process/Finished, not possible to apply

Subject description The position of a Postdoctoral researcher is placed at the Department of Chemistry, Division of Biotechnology, which conducts research and education at undergraduate and graduate level within various branches of biotechnology. The specific research areas being pursued are industrial biotechnology, environmental biotechnology and biotechnology for health, involving both fundamental and applied aspects.

Work duties The work duties as postdoc comprises mainly research. Teaching will also be included although for only one-fifth of the work time. Within the frame of the employment, opportunity for a three week higher education pedagogic training will be provided.

The work duties related to research are within a project on developing proof-of-concept for lysin based therapy against mycobacterial infections supported by the Swedish Research Council VR. The project is in collaboration with Faculty of Medicine, Lund University and RISE Research Institutes of Sweden. The work includes:

• Development of enzymes for treatment of infections caused by mycobacterial pathogens that have developed antibiotic resistance.
• Participate in performing antibacterial tests and developing therapeutic formulations
• Providing product samples for evaluation to the collaborating research groups
• Participation in teaching in the division´s courses and supervision of master students
• Participation in writing grant applications and articles for publication
• Collaborate with the participating companies
• Responsibility for organizing meetings with the project partners, preparation of reports, make presentations in project meetings and international conferences
• Administration related to the work duties.

Qualification requirements Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.  

Additional requirements

• Very good oral and written proficiency in English
• Knowledge in medicinal- and pharmaceutical microbiology, pharmacology, antibiotic resistance, bacteriophages and their enzymes, protein structure-function
• Theoretical knowledge and practical experience in bioinformatics, microbial cultivations, gene cloning and expression in different microbial hosts, site-directed mutagenesis, DNA shuffling, protein purification, enzyme immobilization
• Experience in various analytical techniques for antimicrobial tests, protein stability and structural analysis, chromatographic analysis
• Experience of publishing in highly ranked journals
• Good communication ability
• Experience of supervising students

Assessment criteria and other qualifications This is a career development position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in a career, and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their research qualifications and potential as researchers. Particular emphasis will be placed on research skills within the subject. For appointment to a post-doctoral position, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

• A good ability to develop and conduct high quality research.
• Teaching skills.

Additional assessment criteria:

• Postdoctoral experience within the area of research described above.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

Terms of employment The employment is limited to a maximum of 2 years and is full time. from 1 January 2022, according to an agreement, "Agreement on fixed-term employment as a postdoctoral fellow", between the lbor market partners dated 2008-09-04 (Arbetsgivarverket, OFR:s, Saco-S och SEKO).
