The Research Group

Professor Thoas Fioretos leads the research group for Translational Genomics and Functional Studies of Leukemia at the Division of Clinical Genetics. The research group has been awarded grants from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, and as part of this project, the research group needs reinforcement in its work concerning mapping and functional studies of newly identified cell surface markers on leukemia stem cells. We are now looking for an associate researcher to our new project. The position is a full time position time limited to 1 year starting December 1, 2021, or according to agreement.

Work duties and area of expertise

The work duties for the associate researcher include advanced in vitro studies of leukemia cells as well as identification and functional characterization of new targets on leukemia stem cells. The work includes advanced FACS analyzes, culture of hematopoietic cells, gene editing with CRISPR-Cas9, work with recombinant antibodies, as well as basic molecular biological and bioinformatics analyzes (eg cell culture, PCR, RNA sequencing). The employee will work in a team of researchers with expertise in genomics, bioinformatics and functional studies.

Qualifications

The position requires:

  • PhD degree in experimental clinical genetics with a focus on molecular hematology or equivalent
  • Very good knowledge and experience of working with hematopoietic cells in vitro e.g. culture of primary hematopoietic cells in methylcellulose
  • Very good knowledge and experience of working with FACS analyzes, e.g. various phospho-flow methods and screening of primary hematopoietic cells with broad antibody libraries
  • Very good knowledge and experience of working with basic molecular biology techniques, including cell culture, FACS, CRISPR-Cas9, RNA sequencing, single-cell analyzes and basic bioinformatics analysis
  • Very good knowledge of studies of cell surface receptors and ligands expressed on leukemic cells, e.g. documented through at least 4 scientific publications in the field
  • Ability to speak and write fluently in English

Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability. You must have a good ability to work independently and take initiatives. You must also have excellent communication and collaboration skills as we work closely within the research team.
