The research group

The interdisciplinary research group Applied Gerontology is affiliated with the Centre for Aging and Supportive Environments (CASE). CASE engages senior and junior researchers representing different disciplines and professions, such as gerontology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, design science, nursing, public health science, social work, psychology and epidemiology, at four of the university's faculties. We are now looking for a Postdoctoral researcher in Applied Gerontology. The employment is a full-time, fixed-term position limited to two years, regulated by central agreements regarding post-doctoral employments. Starting date is 1st of February 2022 or according to agreement.

Work assignments and area of expertise

Your main task will be research in applied gerontology in an explicitly interdisciplinary environment. You are expected to develop and conduct your own research primarily within the project “Technologies in the home to support independence and well-being while ageing: “The New Normal?” post pandemic.” Co-workers from several research groups may be involved, which will provide many opportunities for collaboration. There may also be opportunities to participate in other research projects in the research group, at CASE and the Department of Health Sciences. You are expected to be actively involved in the preparation of project proposals and grant applications to external funders.

Teaching to some extent will be included, primarily at the doctoral level, including supervision, but some teaching at basic and advanced levels may occur.

External collaboration and user-oriented research are important elements of the activities and require special attention and commitment. You are expected to actively participate in the research group and CASE, which means that additional tasks may be required.

Assessment criteria and other qualifications

This is a career development position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in a career, and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their research qualifications and potential as researchers.

Appointment to a postdoctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree equivalent to a PhD, within a subject related to the position, completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, e.g., leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical service, assignments of trust, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

For appointments to a postdoctoral position, the ability to develop and conduct high quality research and also teaching skills will be evaluated as part of the assessment criteria. Particular emphasis will be placed on research skills within the subject of applied gerontology with a focus on ageing, health, and technology.

The following are also required for the position:

  • PhD within a subject area of relevance to applied gerontology
  • Documented experience with quantitative research methods
  • Very good computer skills, including excellent skills for work with standard statistical software such as STATA, SAS or SPSS
  • Good command of English, both written and spoken

Special emphasis will be placed on personal qualities. The assignments require that you have a good ability of being flexible, taking responsibility and be able to work both independently and in groups.

The following are considered to be a merit:

  • Documented experience with qualitative research methods
  • Documented experience in interdisciplinary research
  • Documented experience of work and / or research with ageing and technology
  • Good command of Swedish, both written and spoken

Terms of employment

This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of a maximum of 2 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow”) between Lund University, SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated 4 September 2008.
