Medicinska fakulteten, Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

The research group

The Chemical Biology & Therapeutics is a multidisciplinary team at Lund University and University of Gothenburg that explore new therapeutic strategies using material/medicinal chemistry, in-vivo/in-vitro biology, and applied physics. The lab was recently awarded funding for studying in-vivo assembled therapeutics and for an Electronic Neuropharma project (e-NeuroPharma), aiming to address CNS disorders by self-assembled therapeutics. In the e-Neuropharma effort, we will develop self-organizing molecular systems that exert both pharmaceutical activity and electrical functionality to explore new therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases. The latter is a collaboration with the organic bioelectronic team at Linköping University, Karolinska Institute, and Chalmers University of Technology

Work tasks and responsibilities

Develop and evaluate in-vivo assembled conductive polymers from a bioelectronic perspective. Among the tasks is to evaluate our conductive polymer electrodes and characterize their electronic and biologic properties in model systems and zebrafish. Further, it will be important to use the electrodes to control biological processes.

Requirements:

  • PhD in materials science, materials chemistry, bioelectronics, or similar topic, chemistry focus, with very strong knowledge in organic electronic characterization and processing
  • Several years of practical experience in analysis of electronic properties in organic materials and characterization of electrodes for biological applications.
  • Documented expertise in collaborating and running interdisciplinary projects
  • Skilled in the English language, oral and written

Desired for the position is:

  • Practical experience with biological systems
  • Practical experience with optical microscopy, especially confocal microscopy
  • Practical experience with conductive polymers and their in vivo applications
  • Practical experience with controlling biological systems with electrodes.
