Lund University, Department of Astronomy and Theoretical Physics

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is repeatedly ranked among the world’s top universities. The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.

Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.

We announce a one-year temporary researcher position within astronomy at the Department of Astronomy and Theoretical Physics. The succesful applicant will work in the stellar infrared spectroscopy team. This team is led by Nils Ryde, who has a large expertise and experience within the research area.

Work duties
The researcher will work on analysing data from recent CRIRES+ observations performed on galactic centre stars. The project involves pipeline reduction of the data and synthezising theoretical models to perform abundance analysis of the observed stars. The results will be compared with the previous study by the group on galactic centre stars in order to confirm or reject the previous result showing increased alpha abundance for metal rich stars.

The researcher will interface with the laboratory astrophysics group in collaboration with Malmö University in order to secure that atomic data used in the analysis is up to date. The researcher will also be in charge of managing the software used by the group to support the analysis work. The researcher will also work on the teaching telescope to develop reduction pipelines and lab instructions.

Qualifications
The applicant must hold a PhD in astrophysics and have a research profile within stellar spectroscopy, atomic line list theory and stellar populations in the galactic centre. The application must also have experience using the software tool spectroscopy made easy, as there will be no time for proper training. The applicant must have experience with using and maintaining ubuntu linux server software.
