The University has around 47 000 students and more than 8 800 staff based in Lund, Helsingborg and Malmö. We are united in our efforts to understand, explain and improve our world and the human condition.
Lund University welcomes applicants with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We regard gender equality and diversity as a strength and an asset.
Lund Observatory at the Department of Astronomy and Theoretical Physics invites applicants to a Postdoctoral fellow position in the area of exoplanets and planet formation. We are seeking candidates with backgrounds in observations or theory of exoplanets, exoplanet atmospheres, planet-forming disks or protoplanets. The position is for two years. Anticipated starting dates are spring/fall 2022.
Astrophysics at Lund Observatory further encompasses galaxy formation, galactic dynamics and evolution, star formation and dynamics, planet formation and dynamics, high-energy astrophysics, and stellar evolution. We have strong links with upcoming instrumentation, including involvement in Gaia, 4MOST, CHEOPS, PLATO, LISA and ELT instrumentation (HIRES and MOSAIC).
Description of work
The fellow will work in collaboration with Dr. Jens Hoeijmakers, head of the exoplanet atmospheres group in Lund, as well as Prof. Anders Johansen at Lund University and the University of Copenhagen, head of the planet formation group. Applicants are encouraged to define their own research related to a range of possible topics, including high-resolution spectroscopy of atoms and molecules in exoplanet atmospheres at optical or infrared wavelengths, modelling of atmospheric chemistry and dynamics, and the modelling or observation of protoplanetary disks and protoplanets.
Teaching may also be included. The position includes the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning.
Qualification requirements
Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position, completed no more than three years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.
Postdoctoral fellow positions are research-focused appointments intended to form early stages of a science career. The assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their research qualifications and potential as researchers. Particular emphasis will be placed on research skills within the subject. The applicants should hold a PhD in astronomy, astrophysics or a related field not older than three years at the application deadline.
Terms of employment
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of a maximum of 2 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow”) between Lund University, SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated 4 September 2008.
Application procedure
The application should include a CV, a copy of the PhD degree diploma or documents supporting that a PhD degree will be obtained by the start of the employment, a publication list, and a statement of research interests. The statement of research interests should not exceed 3 pages and should include your own research, to be carried out in Lund, as well as an indication of specific interests related to exoplanets, exoplanet atmospheres and/or planet formation.
Reference letters will not be requested, and will not be assessed.
