Job description

The Department of Economics at Lund University seeks two postdoctoral fellows in economics. The holders will conduct independent research in economics, and are expected to cooperate with other researchers at the department, be willing to interact with students, and to actively participate in the common activities of the department. The position involves 20 percent teaching (the equivalent of about one course a year and some supervision of Bachelor and Master theses).

Eligibility

Applicants must hold a PhD in Economics or related discipline (e.g., Finance or Econometrics). The degree must not have been awarded more than three years ago, counted from the date of the application deadline (unless the applicant has been on parental leave or leave due to illness). Applications will also be accepted from persons who have not yet completed their PhD, but this condition must be satisfied at the time of employment.

Qualifications and basis of assessment

The main requirement is scholarly proficiency. Applicants must show a high degree of research expertise as manifested in the quality of their PhD dissertation and other publications.

A doctoral degree from a university outside Sweden is particularly meritorious.

Since the research environment at the Department of Economics is highly international, and since the position includes teaching and supervision in English, a very good command of the English language is required.

For appointment as postdoctoral fellow, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • a good ability to develop and carry out high-quality research, and teaching skill.

In addition to the above, the following set of criteria will be applied in the assessment of candidates:

  • relevance and viability of the research plan.
  • other results and distinctions that attest to the applicant's ability to do research.
  • ability to engage and inform society at large about research.

Evaluation of the applicants will take their experience, knowledge, and personal qualities like cooperativeness into consideration. The applicants' ability to use their scholarly skills and experience to strengthen and supplement existing research activities within the School of Economics and Management will also be considered.

Terms of employment

A postdoctoral position is a position that shall provide opportunities for teaching and research qualifications. The position shall first and foremost provide scope for developing research qualifications. The scope of the position shall also provide an opportunity for training in teaching and learning in higher education corresponding to at least three weeks.
