Workplace
The department of Medical Radiation Physics is engaged in research and education in ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, and its use mainly in medical applications. The major areas are radiotherapy physics, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), X-ray physics, and nuclear medicine.

The Radiotherapy Physics research group is active in both preclinical and clinical radiation therapy. Preclinical and translational research is carried out in close collaboration with several other research groups in radiobiology and experimental radiotherapy, and current interests include, for instance, immunomodulatory radiotherapy and FLASH radiotherapy. Clinical research is conducted closely together with Skåne University Hospital and focuses mainly on 3D methods for dosimetric measurements, calculations, and simulations, especially under the influence of different types of spatial and temporal motion.

Work assignment
A postdoctoral fellow position is now available in the Radiotherapy Physics research group. We are looking for applicants who are interested to work in a multi-disciplinary environment and share responsibility for the advancement of the group’s research projects in radiobiology and experimental radiotherapy. The work will involve development and implementation of radiobiological models and assays for both in vitro and in vivo experiments, including novel 3D models to help bridge the gap between in vitro and in vivo research. The post holder will be expected to take an active part in the development of research questions, write funding applications, present papers at national and international conferences, and publish results in scientific journals.

The position will mainly be focused on research, but it may include occasional teaching in the department’s education program. In addition, the post holder may take part in the supervision of doctoral students and master's theses. Together the tasks related to teaching and/or supervision will be at maximum 20% of the time, calculated over the entire period of employment. The distribution between research and teaching may change over time.

Qualification requirements and assessment criteria
This is a career development position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in a career, and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their research qualifications and potential as researchers.

Eligible to be hired to the post-doctor position is the individual who has completed a doctorate in a relevant subject area at most three years before the end of the application period. The applicant must be able to demonstrate documented knowledge in radiobiology and experimental radiotherapy, experience of working with in vitro and in vivo models, and an excellent ability to communicate in spoken and written English.

Desirable qualifications include experience of working with advanced 3D in vitro models, programming skills, previous post-doctoral research activities, and clinical experience in the field of radiotherapy.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

Terms of employment
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of a maximum of 2 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow”) between Lund University, SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated 4 September 2008.

Employment period
The employment is planned to start during the spring 2022 and is scheduled for full-time employment for a total of 2 years. The position is located in the department of Medical Radiation Physics, Lund, Lund University, Sweden.
