About the research group

Department of Medical radiation physics, Malmö have interdisciplinary research projects related to radiation physics for both diagnostic and therapeutic applications. Professor Lars E. Olsson is heading the department. He also leads the projects about MRI in radiotherapy at Skånes Onkologiska klinik in Lund, which is a centre for research on MRI in radiotherapy. Most of the work will be performed at the MR-scanner at Radiation Oncology, and the place of employment will be Lund. We are now looking for a Postdoctoral researcher in Medical radiation physics. The employment is a full-time, fixed-term position, limited to 2 years and 6 months. Preliminary starting date is 1st of June 2022 or according to agreement.

Work duties

Employment as a Postdoctoral researcher is a fixed-term career-development position to give an early opportunity to develop your independence as a researcher and create the opportunity for further development.

One duty will be to develop an MRI-methods which enable generation of synthetic CT images with artificial intelligence from MR images of patients with metallic hip implant using GE MR-scanner 3.0 T. The project includes optimization of MR-protocol, modification/programming of pulse sequences for reduction of image artifacts from the implants. One other major duty will be development of functional MRI-methods for tumour characterization. The research will be designed as studies to be published in peer-reviewed papers. The duties might include supervision of students at different levels, teaching and projects to develop the activities of the research group. Other tasks may also occur.

Qualifications and basis for assessment

Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position. Certificate that the qualifications requirements are fulfilled must have been received at the latest when the employment decision is made. The applicant who has completed the degree no more than three years before the last day for application is primarily eligible. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.. These circumstances refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical work, positions of trust within trade union organizations or other similar circumstances.

At Lund University, employment as a postdoctoral researcher provides opportunities for scientific and pedagogical merit. There is mainly room for merit in research, but also for certain higher education pedagogical training. Teaching may be included in the tasks. For the employment as a postdoctoral research, scientific ability will primarily be taken into account.

The following are also required for the position:

  • PhD degree in medical radiation physics or another relevant field
  • Very good knowledge in MRI-physics
  • Excellent skills in English speech and writing.

Special emphasis will be placed on certain personal qualities. we are looking for you who have a good ability to cooperate and initiative.

The following are considered to be a merit:

  • Experience of quantitative MRI-methods, advanced image analysis and programming (e.g. Matlab, Pyhon)
  • Experience of supervising students at different levels
  • Licence to practice medical physics.

Terms of employment

This is a full-time employment limited to 2 years and 6 months. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral researcher”) between SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated November 19, 2021.
