MAX IV is a Swedish national large-scale research laboratory hosted by Lund University. It provides scientists from Sweden as well as internationally, with state-of-the-art instrumentation for research in areas such as engineering, physics, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology. Fully developed it will receive more than 2 000 scientists annually, conducting ground-breaking experiments in materials and life sciences using the brilliant X-ray light.

We are looking for two summer workers to work as a part of the APXPS team of MAX IV Laboratory. Currently, the team consists of 12 members working at HIPPIE and SPECIES beamlines. Both beamlines are equipped with Ambient Pressure XPS endstations and provide a range of sample environments that enable studies of catalytic, electrochemical etc systems under realistic conditions. Both beamlines are in user operation stage providing unique possibilities to scientists around the world.

 

The successful candidate will be offered:

  • Experience to work at large scale research facility.
  • A unique chance to engage with several development projects performed by beamline scientists.

The work tasks of the Summer students include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Active participation in the commissioning the APXPS endstations.
  • Active participation in the calibration measurements of mass-spectrometers (QMS and ToF).
  • Active participation in the installation of beamline components at HIPPIE B Branch.
  • Active participation in the installation and commission of HIPPIE piezo shutter project.
  • Active participation in the development of sample environments at both HIPPIE and SPECIES beamline.

Qualifications

  • The successful candidates must have background in STEM subject.
  • Knowledge of ultra-high vacuum instrumentation is considered as an advantage.
  • Knowledge of surface science measurement is considered as an advantage.
  • Knowledge of optics is considered as an advantage.
  • Knowledge of CAD design (Solidworks) is considered as an advantage.

The successful candidate will also be able to demonstrate the ability work in a team, good communication skills and good command of the English.
